On a road trip, the weather decides more than your outfit. It decides whether today is the day for the high mountain pass or the museum, whether the lake is for swimming, and how far an electric car goes on a charge.

A forecast for every stop

Open Weather on your trip and Holiday Routes shows a live forecast for each stop along the route:

• today's high and low and the conditions;
• the chance of rain and the expected rainfall;
• a 7-day outlook, so you can move days around before you set off.

Advice for the mountain days

When the route crosses high passes, the weather panel adds mountain-pass advice: how climbs affect an electric car's battery, and reminders such as winter-tyre and snow-chain rules in the Alpine countries during the cold months.

Weather and electric range

Temperature matters for electric cars. In cold weather, batteries are less efficient and heating uses energy, so the real range drops; on hot days, air conditioning takes a smaller share. On a cold mountain day, plan a little more margin between chargers.

Swap days, not plans

If the forecast shows rain on the day you planned the lake and sunshine on the museum day, swap them. Every day of the plan is editable, and the map, the booklet and your shared travel page follow.

A forecast is a forecast

Mountain weather changes quickly, and road conditions depend on more than the forecast. For high passes, check the road authority's status for closures on the day — especially in spring and autumn.
